Grimethorpe win the 1992 National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain just days after being told that it would be one of 33 pits to be closed.

With intense media interest the Band gave a performance that, quote Philip Wilby (composer of the set test piece "The New Jerusalem"), was "a sure triumph of the human spirit, a sense of liberty and resurrection drawn out of sorrow and pain".
