Unemployment benefits provide temporary income for unemployed workers, for people that maybe were laid off from their job recently.
So when you work for an employer, money is automatically deducted from your paycheck to cover unemployment insurance.
When you're laid off or fired, you are entitled to unemployment benefits unless your employer can prove one of two things. Either you were fired for misconduct or you voluntarily quit your job without real good cause for it.
