The SIDI Rex boot was released in late 2018/early 2019 as the direct replacement to the Vortice. The SIDI Rex sits atop of the food chain in SIDI’s motorcycle boots lineup. Unlike the Mag-1, the Rex boot is more similar to SIDI boots of the past as it has the external protection. While the Mag-1 is lightweight and thinner, the Rex offers more protection and is “bomb proof” essentially. Different strokes for different folks. One isn’t better than the other.
The Rex is a great boot overall. It is extremely well made, and offers amazing levels of protection. One of the nice things about the Rex is the amount of replaceable parts it offers, if you were to go down on the road/track. One thing it lacks compared to its predecessor, is a replaceable sole. So you’d need to get the soles completely replaced if you were to wear through them.
Looks wise, the Rex is pretty boss. Yes it looks big and clunky, but that’s the whole point. This boot is supposed to look like it can withstand a crash and keep you safe. And that’s exactly what it’s designed to do. The Rex boots look great with jeans, and you can wear them on the road easily as they ha e a reflective area on the heel. Overkill for the road? Depends where you live, and what level of protection you want. Do they beat the same old black boots everyone has? Yes. Beats wearing sneakers, thats for sure.
One thing I love about the brand SIDI is they make pretty much only boots. They make great cycling and motorcycle boots. That singular focus, to me, is the difference between SIDI and a company that makes all different types of gear. If you are in the market for a track boot, or all around motorcycle boot, and you want the most protective boot around...SIDI Rex. It’s good to be the king.
As always, stay fresh.
