A senior White House official has warned that the US won't move to improve relations with Beijing until it stops its economic coercion of Australia. During high level talks between the so-called "Quad" countries, US President Joe Biden personally assured Prime Minister Scott Morrison that Australia would not be left "alone on the field".

Stephen Nagy, a senior Associate Professor in Politics and International Studies at Tokyo's International Christian University, says both Japan and the US saying China is a problem is significant.
