As of this November, James Bond has returned to theaters in "Spectre." For that matter, 20-year Bond companion Omega returns alongside agent 007 with the Omega Seamaster Spectre Limited Edition. 41mm in stainless steel, this historically-inspired Seamaster 300 is a limited edition of 7,007 that recalls the heyday of Sean Connery while starring in the era of Daniel Craig.
In fact, the Omega Seamaster 300 Spectre may be the first James Bond limited edition from Omega that actually knows how to stay "undercover." The total lack of overt co-branding is a huge credit to Omega's marketing and design teams, and this discretion preserves the design's core appeal for the general sports watch enthusiast. While Bond is fun, not everyone wants to provide free advertising on his wrist. The Seamaster 300 Spectre ensures Bond stays incognito until called to action...
A classical 1957 Seamaster Professional dial greets the fortunate owner, and the Spectre limited edition offers subtle cues to differentiate it from the standard Seamaster 300. This bezel swaps the standard 0-60 calibration for a 1-0 scale; the Arabic 12 is replaced with a large triangular index and an enlarged Omega marquee; the seconds hand swaps its standard triangular index for the less common but historically accurate "lollipop" style.
The remainder of the dial features the key elements that define the Omega Seamaster 300 in general production. The ghost of the vintage CK2913 asserts itself in force. The triangular indices with simulated radium patina, the clean matte black dial base, and the dauphine/broad arrow hand combination completes the effect. Significantly, Omega has chosen to place the luminescent pain in triangular hollows that add depth and even evoke the "sandwich" dial construction best-known for its ubiquity in the Panerai family.
An Omega Master Co-Axial caliber 8400 provides precise timing, automatic winding, and a robust 60-hour power reserve. The COSC-certified Swiss Chronometer features all of Omega/ETA's latest innovations; free spring balance, full balance bridge, amangnetic Si14 hairspring and balance wheel; dual mainspring barrels; exclusive Arabesque cotes de Geneve and black oxidized screws.
James Bond only visits theaters every two years, at the most. But the hardcore 007 and Omega enthusiast can enjoy the Omega Seamaster 300 Spectre Limited Edition every day. See it in high-resolution images on www.thewatchbox.com.
