Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad are invited to a mysterious land called Subcon, where they discover that the evil Wart has stolen the magical crystal that kept the land peaceful. Wart's minions, the Shy Guys, have taken over Subcon, and it's up to the Mario gang to defeat them and rescue the inhabitants. With the help of new powers like picking up and throwing items, and riding on the backs of creatures like the ostrich-like Birdo, the team must navigate through seven worlds, each with its own unique theme and challenges. As they progress, they'll encounter new allies and enemies, including the enigmatic and mischievous Wart himself. Can the Mario gang defeat Wart and restore peace to Subcon, or will the land be forever trapped in darkness?
