The short answer is YES

What research is showing us is that there is a significant gut component to what's driving inflammation
.
I've also seen the mention in some papers that the gut microbiome of those with psoriasis looks very similar to those with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)😮

✳️ ⬇️ gut bacterial diversity

✳️ Imbalance in bacteria (⬆️ Firmicutes + ⬇️ Bacteroidetes)
.
✳️ Higher levels of E.coli, Staph + Strep species in 💩
.
✳️ ⬆️ Calprotectin (a GI marker used to determine inflammation in the gut)
.
✳️ DNA from bacteria typically found in the GI tract found in the blood (implying a "leakiness" in the gut)
.
✳️ Out of 80 stool samples, fungus was found in 52% with 38.8% positive for C. albicans
.
✳️ ⬆️ Inflammatory Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) production in the gut
.
✳️ "2.53-fold ⬆️ risk of developing Crohns + a 1.71-fold ⬆️ risk of developing ulcerative colitis" which lead researchers to conclude that "psoriasis is significantly associated with IBD"
.
Pretty fascinating, right?
