One of the primary signs of aging identified in Age Reflect, was the loss of firmness and facial contour around the jawline and naso-labial fold
When skin ages, collagen production and elasticity decrease, which causes skin to wrinkle and lose its snug fit, which leads to sagging.
In our youth, fibroblasts are flexible and effectively produce all the collagen and elastin we need to keep our skin smooth, plump and bouncy.
Chronological ageing and photodamage make the cells rigid. Rigid fibroblasts cannot synthesise elastin efficiently, and when elastin production is reduced our skin loses its firmness and our contours become less defined.
