"From the Ground Up": Focus Mitt Training for Wheelchair Boxing and Adaptive Self Defense
Many people think that boxing is a sport for able-bodied people only. However, wheelchair boxing and adaptive self-defense are two ways that people with disabilities can enjoy the sport. This video showcases one individual's journey from the ground up, starting with focus mitt training.
The video follows the athlete as he works with his coach to learn how to properly hit the mitts. He then moves on to shadowboxing and finally sparring with another opponent.
In this clip, you are seeing Joe Grasha, a former US Marine who lost his leg and suffered several additional injuries from an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) that their vehicle ran over. Joe is training to eventually be one of Jing Shen Kuoshu's first line of Adaptive Self Defense Peer Coaches.
Joe is also working with Dave Stafford who has survived 3 life-threatening bouts of cancer caused by a serious case of Crone's Disease. Dave is also training to become an Adaptive Self Defense Instructor.
Follow Joe as he learns new techniques and works with all kinds of different people as he trains to become an instructor.
