I hope you've been enjoying our study in the passionate love of Christ. For today’s passage, we will focus on 2 things: transfixation and entombment - the transfixation (or nail body piercing) of Jesus’s crucifixion and the placement of His body into the tomb.
When I was young, I couldn't wait to get to Easter Sunday. The hope of the resurrection was the whole point of the story. As I got older, though, and my awareness of my own sinfulness grew, of course Good Friday became more important. But today, what I call “Silent Saturday,” has taken center stage in this stage of my life. The entombment was a time when the disciples felt anxiety, loneliness, fear, and maybe even disillusionment. Maybe you're going through the same emotions now. In times like these, I find it's best to look to the past victories Jesus gave us and future hope we have that we will see Him again.
Passages: John 19:31-42; Matthew 27:54-66; Mark 15:39-47; Luke 23:47-56
