Brian Price, professor of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto, presented "The Autonomous Camera: Assayas and Movement" on March 9, 2021, as part of the Rice University Program in Cinema and Media Studies' inaugural lecture series, “Cinema and the (Post-)Human."
The author of "A Theory of Regret" and "Neither God nor Master: Robert Bresson and Radical Politics", Price is currently finishing his next book, "Assayas and Political Seriousness", from which the talk was drawn.
Martin Blumenthal-Barby, associate professor of German and Film Studies in the Department of Modern and Classical Literatures and Cultures and co-director of the interdisciplinary Cinema and Media Studies program, provided welcome and introductory remarks for this event, which was co-sponsored by the Department of Art History, the Department of Modern and Classical Literatures and Cultures, the Humanities Research Center and the School of Humanities Dean’s Office.
