Welcome to our daily encounter with the Word of God! Today, we will reflect on the biblical readings of the day, which lead us through passages that are deeply significant for our spiritual lives. Today's readings include the First Reading from Genesis 3.9-15.20, the Second Reading from Ephesians 1.3-6.11-12 and the Gospel of Luke 1.26-38. Each of these passages brings to light powerful themes that invite us to reflection and action.
First Reading (Genesis 3,9-15.20): At the beginning of human history, after man's fall into sin, we see the intervention of God, who, by calling Adam and Eve, reveals His mercy and promises redemption through offspring of the woman. This passage marks the pivotal moment in salvation history, when God promises victory over evil, making it clear that, despite original sin, the hope of salvation is in action. It is the prophecy of the ongoing struggle between good and evil, a theme that echoes throughout the Bible.
Second Reading (Ephesians 1,3-6.11-12): Saint Paul, in this passage from the Letter to the Ephesians, reminds us of the spiritual blessings that God offers us in Christ. He chose us before the foundation of the world and adopted us as His children. This is a call to understand the greatness of God's love for us and how much we are destined to be part of His eternal plan of salvation. The reading also highlights the importance of divine predestination and how, in Christ, we receive redemption and grace, being called to live for the glory of God.
Gospel (Luke 1,26-38): The Gospel of Luke presents us with the fundamental moment of the Annunciation, when the angel Gabriel addresses Mary and announces to her that she will be the mother of the Savior. This deeply significant passage teaches us about trust in God and Mary's willingness to fulfill the divine plan, even without fully understanding the implications. Mary's "yes" is the perfect response to God's call, and it is this act of faith and obedience that makes her one of the most exemplary figures of faith in all of salvation history.
These readings invite us to reflect on God's love and His divine plan for humanity, which is revealed from the first moments of creation to the fulfillment of the promises in Christ. Mary's "yes" is the answer that God expects from each one of us, a "yes" that translates into trust, faith and willingness to follow the divine plan in our lives. In our Christian walk, we are called to respond in faith, just like Mary, and to live in accordance with God's purpose for our existence.
