In episode 4, I travel to the Starfish Beach in Bocas del Toro in Panama. I start from a small fishing village located on the Panama shore called Chirigui Grande to an archipelago of islands called Bocas del Toro.
Bocas (town on the main Colon island) is ca. 1 hour away by a small fishing boat. I took a boat at 7 am and it was full of locals heading for work to Bocas del Toro islands. The cost of one trip was $10.
The route was sprinkled with small houses on the water, many of which you could rent for the night.
The main island has an amazing vibe, life music, vibrant culture, and many restaurants with great seafood. I took a bus to the north shore of Colon island to Boca del Drago beach. It cost $2.50 for ca. 45-minute ride. Boca del Drago is secluded and was very quiet when I was there. I then took a 20-minute walk to Starfish beach. An alternative is taking a boat for $2/person, which I did on my way back to catch the last bus at 7pm.
Starfish beach is truly amazing. It is true that there are many starfish everywhere in the water. The beach has some local food stalls, but everything was closed for the off-season when I was there. The best, I had the entire beach for myself.
I highly recommend visiting Bocas del Toro when in Panama. It is a truly beautiful place.
