In Mega Man II for the NES, there's a fairly simple way to zip through a significant portion of Heat Man's stage using Item 3 and abusing how wall physics work.
The zip can be performed in the long corridor after the first small room with the disappearing and reappearing blocks. It's got kind of an odd setup, so try to follow as closely as possible.
In the small room with the not-at-all-annoying blocks and that one enemy that roombas around the floor, equip Item 3 and drop down the ladder into the next room while FACING TO THE RIGHT. This is important. While the screen is transitioning downward into the new room, hold down so that you will grab the ladder at the top of the room.
Now you should be hanging near the ceiling in this room, and you may recognize it as the room with the really long stretch of disappearing blocks that most people use Item 2 to cross. But while you're hanging on the ladder, position Mega Man's bottom foot so that it's about one-third of the way into the second brick from the ladder. The next set of inputs are fairly quick. You're going to hit A and B at the same time, then about a frame after, press Down so you re-grab the ladder. If you did this correctly, the Item 3 should be DESCENDING the wall on the left.
Now wait a lil bit for Item 3 to climb down until there's a Mega Man sized space for you to fit on. Once there's enough distance between you and Item 3 so that you can stand on it comfortably, drop down from the ladder and position Mega Man as far to the right as he can be while still standing on Item 3 (this doesn't have to be pixel-precise).
Item 3 should now be climbing toward the ceiling with Mega Man at the very right of the item's platform. If you've done everything right, Mega Man will get pushed into the ceiling once the item ascends to the top. After Mega Man gets pushed through the ceiling, tap A to jump, then you have a 3-6 frame window to tap Left on the D-Pad. After tapping A then Left, Mega Man should zip through a large portion of this area, which saves some good time in a speedrun.
Unfortunately, it does NOT zip you all the way past the long section with the disappearing blocks.
