인도네시아 대통령, 국내 기업인들과 비즈니스 포럼 참석
The visiting Indonesian president and his delegation also met with Korean businesses earlier today.
Our Lee Ji-won reports... it marks the beginning of a whole new level of economic cooperation between the two countries.
President Joko Widodo and a number of Indonesian ministers held a special business forum with Korea's trade minister and some 400 local entrepreneurs on Monday.
The event served as a platform for ministers from both countries to highlight the importance of economic cooperation as well as the signing of a number of MOUs, promising investment commitment.
President Widodo highlighted his country's various stimulus packages and economic reforms which have helped to open up the Southeast Asian economy, making it free from excessive regulations in order to attract more foreign investment.
Over the past few years, Korea has gradually increased its investment in Indonesia to rank as the 7th biggest foreign investor there as of 2015.
And with the latest MOUs, worth some 2-billion U.S. dollars, Korea is set to jump into Indonesia's solar energy sector and power plant projects.
"In the new government, there is new focus. There are two things. The first is infrastructure and the second is on how to build the five sectors including manufacturing. The MOU is focusing to build infrastructure, specifically in the power generation industry.
The chairman added that their business meeting with Korean firms resulted with both sides seeking ways to further increase economic cooperation, including boosting imports and exports by easing regulations.
