In the first episode of his "Stories Behind My Lens" series, photographer Philipp Klein joins Jose, a local legend of the ski community in Tignes, France. Together, they explore the resort, looking for good snow, leading them high up to the Glacier of La Grande Motte to capture exciting ski photographs.
In the first descent, they ski down Couloir 3500, a long, narrow and steep gully, where they find the good snow. After a long tour back into the resort, Jose explains how Climate Change is affecting the glacier on an unprecedent pace, leading to closure and removal of lifts since last season.
After that' they decide to climb to the Summit of La Grande motte, up to 3.656m. However, the wind is strong on top and it's unsure whether they will make it to the summit. After a battle with the wind and the cold, they both skiers get rewarded with a beautiful sunset on top and skiing into the sunset. Finally, they have to descend all the way from the top to the village in the dark, navigating crevasses, steep slopes and wind affected snow at night.
More than finding good snow, they see it's about sharing the experience of creating memorable images, skiing and living outdoors. #skiing #gopro #freeride #backcountryskiing #tignes #photography #sportsphotographer
