While in your kitchen or at the grocery store, you're likely to encounter a lot of different food products with various dates on them. There are "best before" dates, sell-by dates, use-by dates, produced-on dates and many others. What do these dates mean? What is it about them that I have to worry about? Is my food safe?
These various dates are often established by the food manufacturers in relation to product quality, not the safety of the product that's being consumed. However, food label dates can have different implications for different products (e.g. milk, cheese, raw meat, sauces and soups, fresh produce and even infant formula).
Tune in as Ben Chapman, NC State Extension Food Safety Specialist, dishes out the facts on food date labels to help you understand the meaning and ramifications on food safety and quality.
Every month, Homegrown will share new videos featuring tips and tools from our Extension experts in each of three categories: On The Farm, In The Garden and In The Kitchen.
