Japan's Oiso Fire Festival sees locals burn pyres and purify sea water in preparation for a new year
Locals gathered on Saturday for the Dondo Yaki Fire Festival of Oiso, a century-old tradition where they prayed for good fortune in the next year. The celebration, also known as "Oiso no Sagicho," included roasting dumplings by the fire and bathing in the sea in the dark while ornate pyres were burned at Kitahama beach.
