Vila Nova de Gaia or commonly referred to as Gaia is on the other side of the Douro River from Porto in Portugal. Often times people say that it's a good place to live because it's cheaper and gives you more space. Gaia is quite large with a bit of a city feel, the relaxed river vibe, and a variety of beaches along the Atlantic Coast. There are plenty of port wine houses to explore as well. However, it's quite hilly, less walkable, and very spread out.
