The Dancing Dead of Madagascar refers to a unique cultural phenomenon known as Famadihana, or the "Turning of the Bones." This centuries-old ritual is practiced by the Malagasy people, particularly in the central highlands.

During Famadihana, families exhume the bodies of their ancestors from family crypts, rewrap them in fresh cloth, and rewrite their names on the cloth. The bodies are then carried around the tomb while family members dance to live music. This ritual is believed to honor the deceased and ensure their spirits join the world of the ancestors.
