The weekend of March 22, 2024 was unseasonably snowy in Toronto. Despite winter’s lingering wrath, concertgoers braved the elements and witnessed the talent of pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason on-stage at Roy Thomson Hall. In the sizzling Prokofiev’s Piano program, Isata delivered a fiery performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Full of orchestral colour amid manic passages of virtuosity contrasted by moments of serene, lyrical melodies, this concerto is one of the most popular of the 20th century.
But out of the spotlight, what are Isata’s everyday preferences? Does she prefer coffee, or tea? Movies or TV shows? In between countless rehearsals, we caught up with Isata and went through a set of rapid fire questions with the superstar pianist. Here’s what she had to say:
