Lip-tie is a congenital condition in which a string of tissue under the lip, aka Frenulum or Frenum, is too tight or too short.
Lip-ties can cause breastfeeding difficulties for both babies and mothers such as painful nursing and shallow latching. 😥 However, this is not the end. For children with lip-tie, as they start to get their front teeth in, the tight frenum can pull and cause a gap to appear between their two front teeth. The tissue may also interfere with effective oral hygiene as it can be painful to brush around the tie without tearing or injuring it, and unfortunately this impaired ability to clean the teeth properly can further lead to a higher risk of developing cavities on the front teeth.

We can easily treat the lip-tie and restore the normal function of the lips by using a CO2 laser. The benefit of using a laser for the frenectomy procedure is that it’s extremely precise and because the laser seals up the blood vessels and nerve endings during the procedure, there is minimal to no bleeding at all. Because there is no bleeding, stitches are not needed. The procedure itself takes only 15-20 seconds, and there is no need for general anesthesia. Healing can be very fast. 👍🏻
