Should my child take a first SAT or ACT without any prep?
Taking the SAT or ACT “cold” (without any prep) to establish a “baseline” score is not a good idea. When students do this, they are often demoralized by a score much lower than they were hoping for. Students should take a full-length, timed practice exam when they want to establish a baseline score. Students should get used to the length of the test, the speed at which one has to move to get through all, or at least most, of the questions in the time allowed, and some of the strategies before taking an official exam.
