A Brooklyn Park family will spend the holidays without their loved one.
23-year old Seth Bennett was the victim of a hit-and-run accident on November 8 in Brooklyn Park. He passed away Thursday night at North Memorial hospital after his family says he was taken off life support.
On Friday, Bennett's family spent the day making funeral arrangements.
"This is Seth's baby picture, when he was a month old," said Seth's older sister, Candie Nayes.
Bennett's life took a tragic turn a week and a half ago. That's when a driver ran a red light at County Road 81 and 71st Avenue, and hit Bennett as he tried to cross the highway. The driver never stopped, and police are still looking for whoever is responsible.
"We've asked you to come forward and we want to believe the best, we want to believe that it was an accident," said a tearful Nayes. "We don't want vengeance, we want peace, we just want peace for Seth."
Bennett had several broken bones and severe brain damage from the accident. His family surrounded his bedside Thursday night as he was taken off life support.
"We got to hold him and kiss him and hold his hand and pray with him and tell him we love him," said Nayes.
Bennett's organs were donated, so he will give the gift of life to others.
"I'm happy that there's something good coming out of this, and I think he would be proud, he would say, 'I'm glad I could do that,'" said Nayes.
Bennett's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for funeral expenses.
Bennett's Visitation is on Monday, November 21st from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Gearty Delmore in Plymouth.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn Park police are looking for a dark colored sedan with front-end damage. If you have any information give police a call.
