The county board of commissioners issued the mandate in an emergency meeting on Tuesday. The vote was 7-2.
The problem is that COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are rising, and not enough people are getting vaccinated.
Health director Dr. Iulia Vann said they've been doing everything they can to inform and educate the community on the vaccines.
“(We’ve) done well providing them with a variety of options to get vaccinated,” Vann said. “The vaccines are safe and efficient."
County officials hope masks will help keep us from going into dangerous territory with our COVID-19 trends.
"If we let it continue to go, then we're going to be in real trouble this fall," Guilford County Emergency Management Director Don Campbell said.
County officials are encouraging everyone who hasn't gotten vaccinated yet to get the shot as soon as possible.
Some locations are offering $100 cash cards if you get your first dose of the vaccine, while supplies last.
