If you knew how to fall out of handstand without hurting yourself would you still be afraid to practice? Here's the progression for learning how to fall safely out of handstand.
1) Have a strong downward facing dog. Be comfortable holding down dog for at least a minute, two minutes would be better.
2) Build a strong one-legged dog. Get used to using the hamstrings of your lifted leg. They are going to be the driving when you practice lifting your hips up.
3) Hold a 'pike' downward facing dog with your feet on a chair.
4) Practice holding the same pike with one leg lifted like one-legged dog.
5) THE DISMOUNT. Use the lifted leg to pull up into handstand from the chair, then twist at your hips to bring the lifted leg down to the floor. The higher you lift your hips, the easier it will be to bring your foot to the outside of your hand.
6) Practice the dismount the ground. Use the lifted leg to pull your hips up over your shoulders. This is usually where fear tells you to hold back. It will be ok. In fact, overcommit. Get you hips up and when you feel like you're going to fall onto your back, twist the hips and dismount....See, you can do it. Practice this until getting your hips up high isn't so scary.
