Sepp Blatter has given strong backing for Russia amid calls for the 2018 World Cup to be boycotted over Ukraine. The FIFA president, already under numerous concerns regarding the 2022 World Cup in Qatar recalled the political crisis that surrounded boycotts in the Olympic Games in the 80's, as he claimed he wouldn't stand for a similar political standoff in football.
