The logistics finally aligned for a trip to Derawan, West Kalimantan this year - as always, the most gorgeous most pristine islands are never easy to get to - which is a good thing.

The mantas of Sangalaki, the turtles of Maratua, and the reefs of Kakaban were all nothing to scoff at - especially Turtle Traffic, where we stopped counting at 60 turtles.

Unfortunately, the jellyfish lagoon at Kakaban was closed for snorkeling to allow the jellyfishes to regenerate so we made do with a surface peek. Also, I was the only diver in the group (amongst snorkelers) so we did not hit the deeper side of Maratua - so that's deffo still on my bucketlist,
