Downy mildew is a very important disease of vegetables, fruits and so many other crops. This disease is caused by the lower fungi Pseudoprenospora cubensis in cucurbits, plasmopara viticola in grapes and Phytophthora infestans in potato and so many other crops. Hundreds of fungicide products are marketed for the control of downy mildew in the field crops. In this video, we have advised the farmers through a comparative table of fungicides performance to use the most effective one in accordance with their economic conditions. According to our research, Folio gold440 SC of Syngenta @ 1000 ml and Success 72 WP of Arysta lifeScience @ 500 gram/acre both comprising chlorothalonil plus metalaxyl are almost equally effective. A new fungicide Flumax of Evyol group (Fluazinam+metalaxyl) is also among the best products for downy mildew. Most of the poor farmers prefer very old but economic fungicide mencozeb plus metalaxyl. According to the FRAC (Fungicides Resistance Action Committee) 2014, mencozeb is still operative and no evidence of resistance has been reported. However, as evidence from the table, under the changing scenario of climatic and cultural conditions, mencozeb plus metalaxyl is not performing up to the mark. Therefore farmers should use improved fungicides against downy mildew.
