This is a video of a webinar on the architectural use of the Open Group O-MI and O-DF standards for the Internet of Things (IoT).
The webinar was given in June 2015 by Professor Kary Främling of Aalto University, chair of the Open Platform 3.0™ Internet of Things Work Group in The Open Group. It includes demonstrations of the use of the standards in practical systems.
The Internet of Things requires changes to the traditional way of architecting information systems. In the past, enterprise systems might have needed to communicate mainly with other enterprise systems. With the IoT, companies may need to communicate with hundreds or thousands of “intelligent products” and sensors, in addition to other enterprise systems. Those systems might be "owned" by different organizations, companies and people. Such "Systems of Systems" create new challenges of interoperability, scalability and security. The IoT Work Group published the Open Messaging Interface (O-MI) and Open Data Format (O-DF) standards in 2014, which are developed for addressing interoperability in the IoT from a Systems of Systems point of view.
The webinar presented the underlying challenges and architecture for these standards, while answering questions such as "Why O-MI/O-DF?”, “What are they?”, and “How are they used?".
