Chickens can make excellent pets and provide their owners not only eggs but love, affection, and companionship! In this video I’ll introduce you to Lucky, my Serama who lives in my bedroom in her own special house.
This little mini indoor coop was a super fun DIY upcycle from a used rabbit hutch. The interior is lined with foam board panels covered in shelf liner for easy cleaning. The fairy lights are battery operated, and the ceiling lamp is a rescued wax melt base from a second hand store, modified to mount to the ceiling. The switch on the cord makes it easy to turn off or on, and being indoors it’s nice to have the extra light for her.
Everything in her coop is either thrifted or from the dollar store which made this a great cheap project. The best part though is Lucky - she’s fully of love and sass and fills my house with laughter on a regular basis. When properly socialized many breeds of chickens make amazing companions. Seramas are great candidates because of not only their fun cuddly personalities, but also their size. Many of them only grow to about a pound!
