Joash, son of King Ahaziah, is spared from execution by his grandmother Athaliah when his aunt Jehosheba hides him in the temple for six years, preserving David’s royal lineage. Under the guidance of High Priest Jehoiada, Joash is crowned king, Athaliah is executed, and Judah renews its covenant with the Lord, eliminating Baal worship and restoring rightful worship. Joash’s reign begins faithfully with temple repairs and adherence to godly counsel but falters later as he rebels against the Lord, relying on earthly means to appease Syria, leading to his downfall. Ultimately, God’s grace is evident in preserving David’s line and His holiness in executing justice on sin.
