Had Had Lucca Pitti not been as rich as he was, or as ostentatious as he was, we would not have this glorious palace or gardens to visit. His goal was to have the biggest and best palace in Florence, and he succeeded.
This Palazzo is like most palaces, overly decorated with gold everywhere. What is different though is that it has a gallery with some of the best art any palace has to offer: The Palatine. It includes works by Lippi, a few Botticellis and five or six Raphaels, including his Madonna del Granduca, his Madonna of the Stairs, and La Donna Veltata, a portrait of the baker’s daughter with whom Raphael was smitten.
Also see The Grotto of The Boboli Gardens, which is often closed.
