People were quick to note the goofy appearance of the mask, while others noted that a year ago - before the pandemic - face masks were considered strange too. Coronavirus is a respiratory disease that spreads through the air by droplets and smaller particles exhaled from the nose and mouth of an infected person as they breathe, speak or cough. According to Johns Hopkins University, human cells that give people a sense of smell are also key entry point for the coronavirus, meaning it is important to keep noses covered when coming into close contact with other people.
