In June 2017, an R46 A train derailed near 125 Street due to an improperly secured rail. One set involved, 6150-6153, had to be split up after cars 6150-6151 sustained damage beyond repair. Cars 6152-6153 were paired with 6206-6207, a previous “blind” pair. In June 2024 this set (6152-6153-6207-6206) was retired from passenger service with the influx of R211A’s arriving, however multiple problems with the R211A’s have resulted in some R46 sets returning to service. This is one of two R46 sets with inconsistent numbering due to a derailment.
