Technicals are improvised fighting vehicles, often civilian trucks armed with heavy weaponry, used by irregular forces in conflict zones. Their popularity stems from accessibility, adaptability, and mobility advantages, making them effective for insurgencies. Despite benefits like ease of maintenance and psychological impact, technicals have drawbacks such as limited protection and command/control capabilities.
The term "Technical" came from the 1990's and the Somali Civil War where bribes to warlords were recorded as "Technical Payments" on aid organization expense reports.
