After driving every variant of the Mazda CX-90, I was happy to spend a week in the gorgeous 2025 Mazda CX-70 Premium Plus PHEV. Controversy with the naming aside, the CX-70 is a wonderful car that truly stands out amongst mainstream competition with premium design, premium build quality, and a proper dynamic longitudinal chassis. This Premium Plus trim in Polymetal Metallic over red interior is a 10/10 spec as well and comes very well equipped. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏁 @Alllcarnews Spec sheet: The PHEV gets a 2.5L n/a 4 cylinder making 189HP, though with the transmission mounted electric motor, it makes a combined 323HP and 369 lb-ft of torque with 0-60 in around 5.8sec! This power is sent through a Mazda designed 8-speed multi clutch automatic. It gets about 26 miles of EV range and around 28-35 mpg I found combined.

+Quality, styling, premium feel, and dynamic handling are the CX-70’s strong marks. Budget BMW X5 is here.
+Cargo space is always huge without the 3rd row
+I found the suspension to ride less stiff than the last CX-90 PHEV I drove in 2023.
Lows:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
-I still don’t understand why the CX-70 costs more than the CX-90.
-The PHEV system works well though there is a characteristic jerkiness in some EV-Gas transitions. It also could use some more EV range from a larger batter.
8/10 The CX-70 is an all around great product. Capable, stylish, premium, well equipped. Though that turbo MHEV inline-6 remains an option and I would happily choose that instead of this PHEV. ⠀⠀⠀
