Borrell responds to IU criticism for sending weapons: The war can end tomorrow with the surrender! The EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has responded Monday to criticism from IU for sending weapons to Ukraine, stating that another way to quickly end the conflict is the "surrender" by Kiev.

"The war can end tomorrow simply with surrender, but I imagine that you do not propose that," Borrell said in a face to face with IU MEP Manu Pineda who has criticized that with the sending of weapons the European bloc "prolongs a conflict that bleeds the civilian population."
Pineda denounced in the European Parliament the "militaristic escalation" of the bloc and regretted that the case of the journalist Pablo Gonzalez, arrested in Poland accused of espionage, is "imitating the authoritarianism of Vladimir Putin".
The head of EU diplomacy has defended that the EU does not emphasize only on sending arms to Ukraine, but has diplomatic channels open to promote a solution to the conflict "without endangering the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine".
When we stop prolonging it, how do we end (the war)?", he responded, referring to the sending of arms through the European Peace Facility, with which the EU will allocate 1,000 million to subsidize support to Kiev.
This fund, designed to support the modernization of the armies of countries close to the bloc, was not foreseen to be used to send arms to a third country at war, Borrell himself has recognized, who has nevertheless defended that the maneuver is justified in view of the Russian aggression.
"The circumstances are what they are," stressed the High Representative, recalling that Ukraine is the partner with the deepest relationship with Europe, in terms of aid and programs. "Why shouldn't we use a fund for this, even if it was not intended?" he defended.
