A cooking fire demonstration as part of the media launch of the 'recipe for danger' safety campaign - a campaign aiming to reduce cooking fires in the over 65s.
Half the fires attended by Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service every year start in the kitchen. We attend on average 250 fires a year in households with over 65s living there, and three-quarters of fires in those homes start with cooking.
Reduce the risk of fire when cooking by:
- using a cooking timer to reduce the risk of distraction
- keeping cooking areas tidy and clear from clutter
- using less oil, or an alternative cooking method.
