This is how I've been lazily playing the game by maxing out my PvP skills while leveling in PvE in Throne and Liberty.

Using greatsword and staff.

I looked at builds on meta battle and basically looked at large scale and small scale pvp, took the skills I saw from both and am leveling them early. Waiting for my other skills to unlock.

Remember your masteries! You get the tears by getting higher level contacts, and they expire.
