The Ooni Koda's heat sources is in the back of the oven, providing the cooking foods with direct access to the flames. We loved that the cooking stones is removable, and you can even flip it upside down to clean it during the next cooking sessions. The legs also fold all the way down, making it already thin-profiled oven almost flats for storage. It only took just five minutes for the pizza stones to register 500°F and 25 minutes to reach 900°F. The dish which is made such as the Neapolitan-styles pizza cooked in just 90 seconds and resulted in beautifully charred spot on the crust and a gorgeous speckled bottoms. The oven recovered quickly to cook an second pizza without issue, and it did similarly fantastic job searing steaks and charring broccoli in cast-iron skillet. We were thrilled with this less expensive oven's result, it is worth noting that we did encounter some issue with the original Ooni Koda we received. The flames extinguished after a few cooking sessions, and we couldn't get the units to turn back on. A piece on the plastic ignition knobs had also broken, causing the knob to spins around and around. Ooni's customer services was fantastic, sending us a replacement knob. When that didn't resolve the issues, they sent an new oven. We put the new oven through the same rigorous trial as the first one, and couldn't get the issues to replicate, so we must have had a defective unit the first time around
The Ooni Fyra is the best pizza ovens to get if you want to avoid dealing with propane. It runs on wood pellets, the same kind that are used in grills like the Traeger Ironwood 650, but it can still get as hot as 950 degrees; we measured more than 1,000 degrees on occasion. And because it's small and only 22 pounds, it's easy to pack up and take almost anywhere. The Fyra is also the cheapest of Ooni's oven and one of the cheapest pizza ovens in general, so it won't burn a hole in your wallet while it's cooking your pies. Overall, this is one of the Best Pizza Ovens that you can buy right now. Like the other Ooni model, the Fyra is simple to assemble and is also lightweight to moves around fairly easily, though its tall chimney and a large cylindrical pellets hopper render it somewhat more cumbersome than the Koda. The biggest downsides is that managing the wood pellets fire takes some getting used to. The Fyra's attached hoppers is self-feeding, but we found that keeping it topped up and even the fire burning evenly required constant monitorings. Pellet fuel burns faster, hotter, and more evenly than wood chunk, but it also produce more smoke, so it's an good idea to place your Fyra away from doors and windows.
