Unfortunately we have said goodbye to Gordon Brown the big Ochiba. She's had a swim bladder problem since she entered the pond and I knew something was wrong with her spending a lot of time at the top of the pond. Took scrapes and found Costia, but the next morning I came out to find her passed away. As this was a fairly large fish I decided to do an autopsy, something I won't be showing, and found that she was egg bound. I have seen a few posts online about it and saying that the rotting eggs can infect the fish from the inside out. I now see why some people choose to keep an only female or only male pond to stop this from happening.
With a few of the fish showing clamped fins and lying on the bottom I headed over to my local koi shop, Koi Water Gardens. They were really great at helping me source the right treatment and more importantly making sure I got the dosage rate right for the pond. I can't recommend these guys enough, maybe I will book a visit to their quarantine facility in the future.
These really have been some trying times in the hobby and I am quite close to packing it all in. But like I say in the video I guess it's like a relationship, you will be tested and maybe, just maybe if I can get through it all I can enjoy the pond.
Goodbye from me and goodbye from the koi pond !
