American Retired in France with Pensions from both countries
DERREN JOSEPH:
I'm a US taxpayer who's worked in France for many years and have now retired here. I have savings and a 401k. So, a US pension structure from a previous job in the US and in similar plans PERCO and PAA sponsored by employers in France. I know that under the US-French tax treaty when I take a distribution from the 401k, the US retirement plan, I declare it in both countries, but France did not tax it. So, I guess that's a statement and they're looking for some sort of confirmation. Any comments?
HERVE BELOUVRE:
In the French law doesn't know what 401K is, even though it looks through a French financial product like PERCO and PEE, it is not known in France for the French side. It is an account with a capital uses interest and capital gains pensions, and so on to be taxed under these rules. There are no, there are no special for that.
