(17 May 2017) SECURITY LINES STREETS AHEAD OF CANNES OPENING CEREMONY
Under the watchful eye of the French security forces, the 70th annual Cannes Film Festival kicked off with a celeb-filled red carpet Wednesday night (17 MAY 2016).
Snipers were in position on the Palais des Festivals rooftop as stars including Julianne Moore, Will Smith and Susan Sarandon walked the famous red carpet for the premiere of director Arnaud Desplechin's "Ismael's Ghosts," the opening film.
Desplechin was also joined at the event by cast members Marion Cotillard, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Mathieu Almaric.
Other high profile directors screening films at the festival include Sofia Coppola, Todd Haynes, Michael Haneke and David Lynch.
The festival runs until Sunday, May 28, when the winner of the illustrious Palme d'Or is announced.
