Shawn Martin, Director of PMG Activities (Plumbing, Mechanical, Fuel Gas & Swimming Pools) at International Code Council presents how you can get involved with the ICC. When considering green or sustainable construction, many in the building industry instinctively think of rating systems such as LEED or Green Globes.
However in recent years, a new type of green building system, based on minimum codes or standards has come into use in communities around the country. Unlike rating systems, these green codes provide minimum requirements, not points, and are enforced in the same way as codes -- often by building safety professionals such as code officials. Like LEED, the IgCC addresses resource and material use efficiency, site sustainability, energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality and commissioning for both new and existing buildings.
The presentation is of interest to those seeking a resource to help them build more sustainable buildings in a way that complies with state code and is consistent with LEED.
