The COVID 19 virus may have originated from a Chinese lab in Wuhan, says a new study by the US government national laboratory. The new study was prepared in May 2020 by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California and was referred by the State Department according to the reports by The Wall Street Journal. According to the Wall Street Journal report, the Study also pushed for further investigation into the matter. The study was looking into the pandemic’s origins during the final months of the Trump administration, the report said. Lawrence Livermore’s assessment drew on genomic analysis of the COVID-19 virus and Livermore declined to comment on the new Wall Street Journal report. In May US President Joe Biden had ordered his aides to find answers to the origin of the virus. The U.S. intelligence agencies are considering two likely scenarios – The virus resulted from a laboratory accident or It emerged from human contact with an infected animal -but they have not come to a conclusion on the matter. Earlier, U.S. officials have accused China of a lack of transparency on the virus’ origin. There were also accusations of the lack of Chinese cooperation in the WHO investigation on the origins of the pandemic. But these allegations have always been dismissed by the Chinese government.
