When Facebook first went public in 2012, Mark Zuckerberg was on top of the world, with 1 billion users and $100 billion. But just a few years later he was in hot water as he testified before Congress about the spread of fake news on the social media platform during the 2016 presidential election – a failure that he only admitted two years later in yet another Congressional hearing. Venture capitalist Roger McNamee was an early investor in the company and a mentor to then-22-year-old Zuckerberg; since then, however, he has since then come out in full force to speak out against Facebook’s practices, ranging from their handling of users’ privacy to their failure to tamp down on the platform’s threats to democracy.
