These are the highlights from four days of exploring the beautiful Cape Verde islands on the legendary 'Smoker' marlin charter boat.
We set out from São Vicente at sunrise on our first day. Within two hours we had our first marlin in the boat.
From there, we based ourselves at the peaceful seaside village of São Nicolau - a rugged harbor and beach encircled by an ancient cobblestone street.
My buddy Jos and I were lucky to come across five marlin in four days from 200 to 450 pounds. By far the most exciting for me was the swim in the open Atlantic with one of these amazing fish as it was released to fight another day.
