14 September diperingati sebagai Hari Kunjungan Perpustakaan Nasional di Indonesia. Hari ini pun bertepatan dengan Bulan Gemar Membaca. Perayaan hari ini dimulai dengan kunjungan Presiden Kedua Indonesia, Soeharto, ke Perpustakaan Nasional guna meningkatkan minat baca masyarakat Indonesia yang pada saat itu masih relatif rendah.
