As part of the Government's "Right Waste, Right Place" campaign, the Environment Agency is working with the Police, DVSA local councils and HMRC on joint operations stopping vehicles carrying waste in North Greenwich and Thurrock.
All waste carriers must be registered with the Environment Agency and follow a Duty of Care to make sure they deal with and dispose of waste correctly.
So far in these monthly operations, we have stopped around 150 vehicles and half had some duty of care offences.
